BRIEF HISTORY OF COTTINGHAM MARKET  Cottingham green was not the original setting for a place to hold a market in the village, that honour goes to West Green but the market is mentioned on the green in 1601 Today the market is held every Thursdays  the revival was born by the Cottingham traders association in 1883 and continued by the newly established Cottingham branch of Market Traders Federation in 1996. Still  known as the Cottingham Green, it is now a car park in king street Cottingham but still a focal point in the village
